It was a beautiful Florida day in March, 1941.
Corky Coe and his wife had just come off a 1,000 mile trip from Wisconsin. Looking for an ocean front room in Daytona Beach, they happened upon Perry's Ocean Edge Court which opened its doors to guests for the first time that very day. The Coes were so taken with Perry's that they made the annual pilgrimage to Perry's for over 20 years.
Thus began the family owned and managed motel which has become one of Daytona Beach's favorite motels.
"It all boils down to commitment," says Jim Bazemore, who has always recognized the importance of the personal touch in the hospitality business. Jim Bazemore is the son-in-law of the Perry's. He married former Yvonne Perry in 1953, three years after friends and fellow hoteliers, Richard and Jean Moors set him up on a blind date with Yvonne. The Bazemores didn't join the Perry family business until 1961. In the eighties history repeated itself as another young, energetic leader has joined the team. Jeff Walker, who married the Bazemore's daughter, Pam, is Perry's general manager.
In its sixty years, Perry's has grown from the original twelve rooms to over two hundred rooms today The path of growth has included expansion from twelve rooms to thirty four rooms in 1953. In 1969, Perry's bought the Boynton and the Miramar Motels which brought the room count to sixty eight rooms. Additional expansion in the seventies and eighties brought the property to its current size.
The story of Perry's is a family story. The traditions are deep and rich and are meticulously passed from generation to generation. Because of this, when Perry's guests see the Perry's staff wearing their name badges with the message "Welcome Home!" they know it is a sincere greeting
