Opened in 1998 as a tribute to golf legend Arnold Palmer and hotel business magnate Kemmons Wilson, Orange Lake's Legends has quickly become one of Orlando's most popular courses. Laid out by Palmer Course Design, the course provides two distinct nine-hole layouts. The front side has been named The Links Nine for its open feel, which reminds one of playing the great links of Scotland and Ireland. The back nine, or The Pines, has tight, tree-lined fairways similar to the great American layouts in the Pinehurst area of North Carolina. Combined, the course provides an extremely entertaining and challenging round of golf, with water bordering on just 10 holes. How about 36 holes? Sister course, the Reserve, is just 5 minutes away! Course gets all it's weak holes over with early and finishes with a great back nine with lots of thinking golf needed to play well. Conditions were very good and fairways had a bit of fire. Plenty of water hazards get your attention. Greens rolled very true and were very sloping with medium putting speed to compensate. Only complaint, bunkers had too much sand in them, golfers ignored raking deep footprints, several fried egg lies and hard to gauge shot distances.

Orange Lake Legends was the surprise of our trip. Very underrated. We preferred it over Waldorf Astoria. The green complexes were outstanding and they overseed wall to wall. Even Mickey's train whistle next door did not bother us.
