About ChampionsGate Golf Club - International (ChampionsGate, FL)
This world-class 36-hole facility, designed by Greg Norman, opened in the fall of 2000. Although Norman designed it as an "Australian links," the International was also clearly influenced by his British Open success and features a wild, windswept appearance. The fairways are peppered with devilish pot bunkers, making it a tough challenge to safely reach small, slick greens. At a stretch of over 7,300 yards, it has one of the highest course ratings in the state ~ truly unique, challenging, and memorable. Not as difficult as rated. Holes had wide landing areas with variety of bunkers and hazards to catch most errant shots. Greens were smooth but slow so undulations play as big a factor as designed. Fairways were excellent while roughs were spotty.

I think the billing of a "links course" is a little overdone. What they call pot bunkers are not really POT just small. Greens not in great shape, maybe the season. In general, for both courses, this did not have the feel of a quality resort course and facility (and we have played and stayed at many). Staff kind of stood around, unaware of what needed to be done. Said there were balls on range when there were not, didn't have lids for water cups, inadequate sand in cart receptacles, no towels, poor water facilities, carts dirty,lights burned out in course restrooms, etc.

Disappointing. Good greens and layout, but not a tree on it. Some tricked up holes. Probably won't play again. Might be interesting to see what the National course looked like.

Conditions were absolutely awesome! We were cart path only. I am assuming since the conditions were perfect coupled with the cart path rules, they were preparing for a pro event. This may now be my #1 favorite course in the Orlando area (surpassing OCN and Southern Dunes).

Pace of play early on a saturday morning excellent. Great attempt at a linksy course. Some lakes were evidently dry which detracetd for the overall look.

In spite of a frost delay of 2 hours, the staff managed to keep things moving with shotgun starts. Managed very well. Staff was frindely and helpful and the courses were in great shape.
