About Mission Inn Resort & Club - El Campeon (Howey-In-The-Hills, FL)
Built in 1926, Mission Inn's El Campeon, "The Champion," is one of the south's oldest and most historical, prestigious golf courses. Architect Captain Charles Clarke of Troon, Scotland, blended unusual elevation changes of more than 85 feet with features of traditional golf design. Rolling fairways (some dramatic), undulating greens and well-placed berms, bunkers and sandy waste areas, as well as water on 11 holes, all only begin to characterize the aura of El Campeon. Just rated 4 stars by Golf Digest's "Best Places To Play, 2008/2009." You can't miss the Spanish-style resort inn/ hotel in the background. 'Championship Golf' at Mission Inn... always a challenge, always inviting, and always memorable. An easy 35-40 minute drive from most Orlando areas, and always well worth the drive!

David (Levittown, NY) says:
A beautiful course -- although the recent freeze hurt the greens. Worth the trip. Next time we'll play it twice.

Richard (Syosset, NY) says:
Beautiful old course. It was almost an hour from Orlando but we all enjoyed this course. Would have liked a GPS system on the carts.

Frank (Rehoboth, MA) says:
This was the first time we added this course to our rotation(we come every year for a week) and was not disappointed. It is a bit of a ride, but well worth it. Great golfing experience.

Great course and conditions

I love the elevation changes. The last 4 holes are among the best finishing holes I have ever played.

Grady (Lehigh Acres, FL) says:
Driving range could be improved, putting green was very good. Course in very nice and historical but priced a little on the high side for overall value

Craig (Canton, OH) says:
Very nice. Some of our group picked this course as the best of the week. Greens were a little bare on some holes, but overall a good course - definitely different.

Brad (Lake Placid, NY) says:
The best course we played.

Rick (Chesapeake, VA) says:
Beautiful course, very challenging, very well maintained. Our top rated course of the week, even if it did kill all of our scoring averages. Take a few moments during the round to stop, look around and enjoy the beauty of this course.

Ronald (Mount Prospect, IL) says:
Absolutely beautiful facility. Great course. Rolling hills and slick greens are very reminiscent of Midwestern courses. Pro shop and restaurant are terrific. Played the Las Colinas course there in the afternoon. Not bad, but overpriced and doesn't compare to El Campeon.

Donald (Feura Bush, NY) says:
Great layout. Holes you'll remember!

Carl (Warminster, PA) says:
As good or even better than Disney courses.

Nick (Grand Rapids, MI) says:
Just a wonderful golf course that you wouldn't expect to find in Florida given the elevation changes. Worth the drive!

Paul (Pleasanton, CA) says:
Challenging course. It has length and creative greens. Elevation change, and unlevel lies on some holes can make you focus. We played both courses at Mission Inn and both deserve another visit. No GPS on carts...bring a SkyCaddie.

Georgia (Crossville, TN) says:
nice course was wet the day we played, would play a course closer to Orlando next time was pricy for the course we played
Commented on 03/03/2008
Stephen (East Walpole, MA) says:
A little bit out of the way, but we played late morning and almost had the course to ourselves. If you don't mind the 45 minute ride, then it's well worth it.

John (Holtsville, NY) says:
A bit of a drive but worth every minute. Great condition all around. Hadn't been there in several years and gald we went back. And their replay rate is the best bargain in the area. Don't miss it.
